We are proud to introduce the speakers for the 2023 Madrid mini-event.


Hamish Binns

Hamish Binns is Program Director of ESL, Modern Languages and Education at Saint Louis University Madrid Campus. He holds a MA in Human Sciences from Oxford University. He has published various books on teaching and plays various instruments including the spoons. He coordinates http://www.seispinguinos.com, a project dedicated to music in education and the making of instruments from recycled materials.

Dr. Daniel Brint

Dr. Daniel Brint is a teacher and writer based in Madrid. He has been a TESOL-SPAIN board member since 2020 and was the coordinator of the 2023 Madrid TESOL Convention KM0 The Road Ahead Together. He is the general editor of the new TESOL-SPAIN ELT JOURNAL (TSEJ).

Andrea Littlewood

Andrea Littlewood has been teaching since 1985. She is involved in YLs teacher training
and support at IH Madrid where she works as a school coordinator. She has experience
as a primary course book writer and is particularly interested in how we can keep our children motivated and engaged in class.

Mercedes Luque

Mercedes teaches English, Spanish and Mandarin at Ebenen Idiomas. She is also in charge of the social media of the school, where she grounds her experience in teaching different levels from kindergarten to adults. She holds a Master’s in Legal Translation and various studies at the Shanghai International University and University of Alcalá, helping her to build bridges among cultures and languages in her classes.

Beatriz Marbán

Beatriz teaches English and Spanish at Ebenen Idiomas, where she also coordinates the annual summer camp and the Saturday English programme.

Jennifer Murray

Jennifer Murray has been in ELT for decades. First in the classroom, then as a DOS, an editor, a publisher and more. At Best Words Copywriting, she helps ELT freelancers with their words. She writes marketing copy and online content, offers 121 coaching sessions and provides editorial services to teacherpreneurs and publishers. Jennifer attended her first TESOL-SPAIN Convention in 2001.

Rebecca Place

Rebecca Place has worked for over 30 years in the world of teaching English as a foreign language and she is currently responsible for British Council Spain’s national teacher-training project and in her spare time is the Media Officer for TESOL-SPAIN. Among Rebecca’s many areas of interest are Special Educational Difficulties, Phonetics and Plurilingual Education. She has taught English to students aged 2 to 72, written methodology books and storybooks and travelled near and far as a convention speaker, examiner and storyteller.

Silvie Rasikova

Silvie Rasikova is currently working at British Council Martínez Campos in Madrid as one of the operational coordinators. Silvie started teaching in 2001 and has worked in the Czech Republic, the UK and Spain. She has completed the IH Young Learners’ Course and the DELTA. She also has a Master’s degree in Spanish and English language and literature. Silvie is particularly interested in how the element of play motivates students and stimulates their learning.

Deni Savvidou

Deni Savvidou is a British Council teacher and teaching coordinator who holds a DipTESOL, an MA in Renaissance Studies and a BA in English Studies. She has a background in ELT publishing and her interests include phonology, native speakerism, educational research and teacher training.

Dr. Ruth Wilkinson

Ruth taught English in Spain for many years before specializing in learner autonomy and completing her PhD in this area. She has designed and run many in-service teacher-training courses for primary and secondary teachers and worked as an editor for the IATEFL international magazine “Independence”.  She now works as a department coordinator in the language department of Comillas University.
